Atmosphere - Paperback Release
Window mural · Acrylics & Posca markers · 2025
Penguin commissioned a hand-painted window mural for the paperback release of Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid, a #1 New York Times bestselling novel following Joan Goodwin, a fictional astronaut navigating NASA's Space Shuttle program in the early 1980s.
The brief: bring the book's atmospheric, romantic world to life on Waterstones Princes Street, Edinburgh's most prominent bookshop window.

Working directly on glass with acrylics and Posca markers, the design translates the cover art's themes of space, ambition, and love into a handcrafted piece of public illustration. The palette, the lettering, the imagery, all built to stop people mid-stride on Princes Street and pull them into the world of the book before they've even opened the cover.
This is what window painting does: it makes a book feel like an event, anchored to a place and a moment in time. Painted on-site. Gone when the next story arrives. Unmissable while it's there!
